This is the snow field I took in Inner Mongolia, China. I used the light painting of the drone to get a beautiful ring. I got this picture by synthesizing the light formed by the drone on the ground at different times. I wanted to adjust the photo to purple because I think it is more mysterious, and of course there is a transition to bluish blue in the color of the snow to achieve visual balance. But I want to make the photo more mysterious, what should I do?
Of course, I can share my original files with you if you like
Chengrui,
Thank you for sharing 'Halo' with us in Critique Forum. I like it for its originality. The footprints make a good leading line, and the light around the tree adds a lot to the photo. It seems like an alien craft is circling, about to land near the tree, perhaps to take a sample of Earth's life form. The empty landscape adds a sense of mystery as if this is a secret operation that no one will see . . . . except the photographer. The tree seems to be leaning to the left, and that's a good detail to add to the feeling that this is a remote landscape where the weather is extreme.
We usually make suggestions that we think might improve an image. In my opinion you could try a closer crop and retouching the two bright spots in the sky - moon, and jet trail - as they are small distractions. The colour could be a bit stronger too - to add to the drama and sense of surrealism.
'Halo' is OK for a title unless you want to direct viewers to a particular theme or feeling. 'Observation' would suggest the alien space vehicle idea; 'Conspiracy Theory' would add a touch of humour; or 'Mystery in Mongolia'. Just ideas.
I enjoyed this photo. I hope we'll see more from you in our section. We're open to all members, so if you have an opinion or idea for a photo, please feel free to comment.
Sample edit attached - quck crop, more magenta, and two bright spots in sky retouched . . . .

Steven T, thank you for the new idea you gave me. After cutting together, the content conveyed in the picture really became clearer. The fine adjustment of the sky color made the purple look more natural, which was very helpful to me

With your help, I tried to improve on your ideas more and in the process added new things like the glow of the halo to make it even more mysterious

new one
Chengrui,
Your re-edit looks good! I'm curious about the drone. Does it make a perfect circle like that automatically, or do you have to fly it manually? How long was the exposure for the halo light? As a photographer of course I want to know how it was done. The audience will ask 'why' was it done - what is the photographer saying with this image? To answer that they start with the photograph, title, and description . . . and then use their imagination to put the puzzle together.

I am using a dji drone, which has a focus tracking function. Do I lock the focus of the drone on the tree while turning on the safety light below to illuminate the tree? I try to let it automatically execute flight commands, but the size, position and arc of the halo cannot be guaranteed, so I manually fly around at the fastest speed. The shutter speed needs to be changed more. Sometimes you need to use the nd filter.

Thank you for that information. You flew a perfect circle! Good tip about the ND filter. I've read that some drone cameras have a fixed lens aperture, so ND filters are necessary to avoid overexposure.
Hello Chengrui,
Thank you for sending your photo to this forum.
Similarly to my previous proposal for your photo, due to the somewhat poorly defined white balance in my opinion, I proposed a slightly contrasting photo in black and white. I also removed small white dots in the sky so that they would not distract attention.
My proposal is attached
Best regards
